Building a Stronger
Internet for Our Community
The Internet plays an essential role in how people communicate, learn, work, access information, and participate in everyday life. However, reliable and meaningful Internet access is not experienced equally by everyone. Communities may face barriers related to infrastructure, affordability, digital skills, geography, policy, security, or access to trusted information.
ISOC-DC works with local partners, technical communities, educators, decision-makers, and Internet users to help address these challenges. Our goal is to support an Internet that is accessible, secure, resilient, and useful for people throughout our community.
What we focus on
Our work is guided by the belief that everyone should be able to benefit from a reliable and trustworthy Internet. We focus on issues that affect how people connect, participate, and thrive online, including:
- Expanding access to affordable and dependable Internet connectivity
- Supporting safe, secure, and resilient online environments
- Increasing awareness of how the Internet works and why its underlying infrastructure matters
- Encouraging responsible policies that protect openness, privacy, and innovation
- Promoting digital skills and technical education
- Creating opportunities for local voices to contribute to conversations about the Internet's future
Local Action,
Shared Purpose.
The Internet is global, but many of its opportunities and challenges are felt locally. Our chapter helps connect community perspectives with a wider network of people working to strengthen the Internet around the world.
Through engagement, collaboration, and practical initiatives, we aim to help ensure that the Internet remains a trusted resource for communication, education, innovation, and opportunity.
Your perspective belongs in the conversation.
